Al Saoub is a former Mujahadeen who fought previously against the Soviets in Afghanistan and then resided in Peshawar, Pakistan, until 1993 when he emigrated to the USA. Al Saoub is a lawful permanent U.S. resident alien who is a radical fundamentalist Sunni Muslim.
Al Saoub chose, post 9/11/2001, to travel overseas with the specific intent of attempting to enter Afghanistan to support and fight along side of Al Qaeda and Taliban forces against U.S. and coalition forces. Al Saoub was accompanied by four others who were apprehended on 10/4/02, all U.S. citizens. They were all indicted on charges of Conspiracy to: (1) Levy War Against the U.S., (2) Provide Material Support & Resources to Foreign Terrorist Organizations, and (3) Contribute Services to Al Qaeda and Taliban.
Al Saoub is still an outstanding International Terrorism fugitive. Al Saoub departed the U.S. on October 17, 2001; his last known whereabouts was on May 23, 2002, when he departed mainland China and he is still thought to be outside the U.S.
The U.S. Department of State's Rewards for Justice Program offers a reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of international terrorist Habis Abdulla AL SAOUB.
